My kids love play dough but I do not know how many times over the years I have had to buy play dough because my kids leave it out and it dries up. Those little cups add up because of course they all want different colors.
It wasn’t until my middle was in preschool that I even thought about making it myself. I mean there’s no way the school was going to buy that much play dough. So I asked how they made it. And of course I’m going to share the recipe here for all of you!
What even better is that its is a learning opportunity for the kids because you don’t want just plain white dough, that’s boring! By adding and mixing colors you have the opportunity to teach them what their primary colors are and how we get different colors by mixing them together. Cool huh! And if you don’t know what colors mix to make what I’ll add a little chart.
Remember their little brains are always absorbing information so have fun and teach them something new.
Play Dough recipe:
– 2 cups of flour
– 1 cup of salt
– 2 cups of water
– 4 teaspoons of oil
– Any color of food coloring
Mix all ingredients together in a sauce pan over medium heat. Stir constantly until a ball forms. Remove from heat and let cool. Once dough is cooled kneed dough and separate into portions for each color you want. Add a couple drops of the food coloring and kneed to mix. Remember be creative you can add glitter and essential oils for a sparkly dough that smells good.Edit Image
